Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday announced cash incentives for Tamil Nadu players who excelled at the World Cup Carrom Championship held in the Maldives, congratulating them for bringing international recognition to the State.
Keerthana from Kasimedu in Chennai emerged as the standout performer at the championship, winning gold medals in all three categories — women’s singles, doubles and team events — to clinch the overall world title.
Appreciating her remarkable achievement, the Chief Minister presented her with a cash incentive of Rs 1 crore.
Former world champion Kasima, also from Kasimedu, Chennai, delivered an impressive performance at the tournament, winning a bronze medal in the singles category, a silver medal in doubles and a gold medal in the team event.
In recognition of her achievements, the Chief Minister awarded her an incentive cheque of Rs 50 lakh.
Congratulating the medal winners from Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin said their success at the World Cup Carrom Championship was a matter of pride for the State and an inspiration for young sportspersons.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting athletes who excel at national and international levels.
