Stalin flags off Rs 34.30 Crore AC Luxury buses for intercity travel

Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated the services of 20 state-of-the-art air-conditioned luxury buses, procured at a total cost of Rs. 34.30 crore, at a function held at the Island Grounds in Chennai.

The newly introduced luxury buses are part of the Tamil Nadu government’s initiative to enhance intercity public transport with modern, comfortable and premium travel facilities. The buses are equipped with advanced safety features, air-conditioned interiors and improved passenger amenities.

In the first phase, the 20 buses will be operated across major cities and key routes in the State and neighbouring Karnataka. Services include two buses each on the Chennai–Madurai, Chennai–Tirunelveli, Chennai–Tiruchendur, Chennai–Thanjavur, Chennai–Salem, Chennai–Tiruppur, Chennai–Bengaluru, Chennai–Tiruchirappalli, Chennai–Coimbatore, Coimbatore–Bengaluru and Chennai–Nagercoil routes.

Officials said the luxury buses would connect 20 cities initially, with plans to expand services based on passenger response. Fare details for the new services are expected to be announced shortly.

Passengers will be able to book tickets online, making the service more accessible and convenient for long-distance travellers. The initiative is aimed at offering a high-quality alternative to private intercity transport while strengthening the State-run transport system.
