The 10th Annual Day celebrations of Stanes CBSE School were held with grandeur in Coimbatore on Friday in the presence of the management of Stanes Educational Institutions, teachers, parents, alumni and a large number of students.
The function was attended by Mrs.Mercy Oomen, Chairperson of Stanes Educational Institutions, Mr. Philip. R. J. Fowler, Correspondent of the school, and Dr. James J. Gnanadoss, Honorary Treasurer, as chief guests.
The programme began with an invocation, followed by the school song. Mrs. Eileen Jethro, Principal of Stanes CBSE School, welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report highlighting the institution’s achievements over the past year.
Students presented a variety of cultural programmes showcasing their talents, while special presentations reflected the school’s achievements during the past 10 years.
Addressing the gathering, Mr.Philip. R. J. Fowler shared the history of Sir Robert Stanes, founder of the Stanes Educational Institutions. He recalled that when Sir Robert Stanes arrived in India and reached Podanur Railway Station in Coimbatore, he realised the need for quality educational institutions in the region. This inspired him to establish the Stanes School to provide quality education to the people.
He further said Sir Robert Stanes also founded Stanes Mills with the vision of creating employment opportunities for the people of Coimbatore. These initiatives laid the foundation for the city to earn the distinction of being known as the “Manchester of South India.”
Mr. Philip. R. J. Fowler also highlighted Sir Robert Stanes’ role in encouraging the scientific and technical interests of G. D. Naidu, stating that he believed industrial progress and educational development should go hand in hand.
Students who excelled in public examinations and academics were honoured with prizes and certificates of appreciation. The chief guest congratulated the award winners and advised students to achieve greater success through perseverance, discipline and social responsibility.

The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
