Surana and Surana international attorneys opens new branch in Coimbatore

Surana and Surana International Attorneys inaugurated its new branch office in Coimbatore on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the firm’s expansion.
Founded in Chennai in 1971, the firm has been consistently recognised as the highest-ranked South Indian law firm for more than three decades.
It is also the world’s first law firm to receive ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management and SA 8000 certification for Social Accountability, and the first law firm in Asia to be certified under ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems.
The firm, known for its expertise in corporate, commercial and intellectual property rights law, currently serves clients across more than 60 cities in India and over 40 countries
worldwide.
Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer Vinod Surana said the firm has been representing several leading business families and corporates in the Coimbatore–Tirupur region from its Chennai office for more than three decades.
He also recalled that the firm played a role in conceptualising and advocating with the Central Government for the establishment of India’s first Defence Manufacturing Corridor in Tamil Nadu in 2017.
The firm has entered into a memorandum of understanding with CODISSIA to provide legal, financial and tax restructuring support, as well as compliance-related services to its members, including defence start-ups incubated at the CODISSIA Defence Innovation and Incubation Centre.


Another memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu encouraging the establishment of branches in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities across the State to provide high-quality legal services that support both traditional and emerging industries.
Speaking on the occasion, CODISSIA President Karthikeyan Mounaguruswamy appreciated the firm’s role as legal advisors to the Ministry of Defence since 2017 and highlighted its contribution to the development of the Tamil Nadu Defence Corridor, particularly in supporting the growth of MSMEs.
Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rajesh Lund praised the firm’s professional work culture and gender diversity.
He also noted that the launch of the Coimbatore office coincided with International Women’s Day and welcomed the firm’s presence in the region.
Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of Krish Carbon, recalled his long association with the firm and said its professionalism and stability had earned the trust of several corporate clients.
On the occasion, the firm released three handbooks focusing on Intellectual Property Rights, MSMEs and business families.
The event also featured two panel discussions on the evolving role and challenges of business families in India’s growth journey.
The first session, titled “Vision for Coimbatore of 2047,” was moderated by Vinod Surana and featured Sriram Sankaran, Chairman and Managing Director of Synchron Group, Priya Bhansali, Managing Partner of Kumbhat and Co LLP, and author and researcher P. Kanagasabhapati.
The second panel discussion, titled “Governance, Growth and Succession – Practical Challenges in Business Families,” was moderated by Priyatej Kotipalli, Associate Professor and Deputy Director of IDEATE Labs and Family Business Centre.
The panel included Sanjay Mehta, Senior Partner of Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Rajesh Govindarajulu, jeweller, historian and columnist, and Rohit Bharadwaj, Country Head – India and Director, Private Clients, Henley and Partners.
The programme concluded with an interactive question and answer session followed by a networking lunch.
