Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan pay last respects to Nallakannu

Film personalities and political leaders on Wednesday paid homage to veteran Communist Party of India leader R. Nallakannu, whose mortal remains have been kept at the party’s State office in Thyagaraya Nagar for public tributes.
Actors Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan visited the CPI office and paid their respects to the departed leader. Poet Vairamuthu, actors Nassar and director Vetrimaaran also offered floral tributes in person.
Leaders cutting across party lines continued to arrive at the venue to honour the late leader, who passed away at the age of 101. Party cadres and members of the public queued up to pay homage, recalling his decades-long contribution to Left politics and social causes.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay were among the prominent political figures who laid wreaths and paid their respects. The atmosphere at the CPI office remained solemn as tributes poured in from various sections, reflecting the wide respect Nallakannu commanded across political and social spheres.
