Suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Jafar Siddiq has been arrested by the CBCID police in connection with a complaint filed by his wife, Shobana, alleging assault and torture. He was subsequently lodged in Vellore Central Prison.
Jafar Siddiq, who served as DSP in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district, was accused of assaulting his wife. Shobana reportedly lodged a complaint with Vellore police on August 4, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.
According to the information provided, investigators found the allegations to be substantiated. CBCID personnel from Vellore subsequently visited Paramakudi, questioned Jafar Siddiq and searched his office.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary ordered his suspension. The arrest followed a complaint submitted by Shobana to the Director General of Police (DGP), in which she allegedly accused him of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment and maintaining relationships with several women. The CBCID police arrested Jafar Siddiq on Thursday night and took him into custody before he was lodged in Vellore Central Prison.
