A 26-year-old newly married woman allegedly died by suicide following harassment by her husband at Mallachandra village under the Bagalakunte police station limits in Nelamangala Taluk of Bengaluru Rural
district.
The deceased, Aishwarya, a native of Nagamangala in Mandya district, had married Likit Simha of Mallachandra at the end of November. The couple had been married for less than a month and were living together at the husband’s
residence.
According to the police, soon after the marriage, Likit Simha began suspecting Aishwarya’s behaviour and allegedly subjected her to mental and physical harassment.
He is accused of abusing and assaulting her repeatedly. Distressed by the alleged ill-treatment, Aishwarya had reportedly informed her parents about her
suffering.
On the morning of the incident, Aishwarya’s parents visited Mallachandra and held discussions with Likit Simha in an attempt to resolve the marital dispute.
However, after they returned home later in the evening, another quarrel reportedly broke out between the couple.
Police said that following the altercation, Aishwarya allegedly took the extreme step of ending her life by hanging herself with her saree while her husband was away from the house. When Likit Simha returned, he found her hanging and informed her parents over the phone.
Aishwarya’s parents rushed to the spot and, upon seeing their daughter dead, alerted the police. The police reached the house, conducted a spot inspection, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Based on the complaint lodged by Aishwarya’s parents, the police arrested Likit Simha and have taken him into custody for further questioning.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Mallachandra village and plunged the area into mourning.
