Tamil Nadu records Rs 1.18 lakh Crore revenue, Rs 1.38 lakh Crore expenditure

The Tamil Nadu Government recorded revenue of Rs 1,17,791 crore during the first five months of the 2026-27 financial year from April to August, while its total expenditure stood at Rs 1,38,140 crore, resulting in a revenue deficit of Rs 20,349 crore.
The revenue was generated through State Goods and Services Tax, stamp duty and registration fees, land sales, sales and trade taxes, State excise duty, the State’s share of Central taxes, other taxes and duties, non-tax revenue and Central grants.
Of the total revenue, Rs 34,144.06 crore came from State GST, Rs 10,493.30 crore from stamp duty and registration fees, Rs 57.16 crore from land sales and Rs 28,164.79 crore from sales and trade taxes. State excise duty contributed Rs 5,214 crore.
The State received Rs 24,188 crore as its share of Central taxes, while other taxes and duties contributed Rs 6,843 crore. Non-tax revenue stood at Rs 5,149 crore and Central grants at Rs 3,537 crore.
During the five-month period, the Government spent Rs 25,991 crore on interest payments and Rs 21,008 crore on pensions, according to the figures.
The State Government also borrowed Rs 30,021 crore during the first five months of the financial year. No fresh borrowing was undertaken in August, the figures showed.
