A government Urdu school teacher in Savanur, Haveri district, Karnataka, was assaulted and publicly humiliated by villagers after being accused of sexually harassing a student.
According to police, the teacher, identified as Jagadish (30), had repeatedly harassed a girl studying in his class. When she threatened to inform her parents, he allegedly warned her that she would not be allowed to attend class and would fail his subject.
He also asked her to meet him after school and, when she refused, allegedly hit her in the stomach.
The girl informed her parents, who arrived at the school with relatives and villagers. They dragged the teacher out of the classroom, assaulted him, tore his shirt, and garlanded him with sandals.
He was then paraded from the school to the Savanur police station, where he was handed over to the authorities.
The student filed a complaint, and police arrested Jagadish. Initial investigation revealed that he had allegedly harassed several other students as well.
A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and further investigation is underway.
