Teacher dies by suicide; youth booked

A 23-year-old private school teacher died by suicide near Salem, allegedly due to harassment linked to a love relationship.
Police said Shanmugapriya, daughter of Kumar from Azhaganur Asari Pattarai area, had been in a relationship for four years with Gautham (23) of Amarakunthi, Neykarapatti.
She had recently stopped speaking to him over his behaviour.
However, he allegedly continued to pressure her for marriage and threatened to circulate their photographs on social media.
Distressed over the threats, Shanmugapriya died by suicide at her residence on Tuesday.
Magudanchavadi police recovered the body and sent it to the Government Hospital, Sankagiri, for post-mortem.
A four-page letter reportedly written by her blaming Gautham was recovered.
Based on a complaint by her mother Vijayalakshmi, police registered a case. Relatives refused to receive the body demanding his arrest. Police said efforts are on to secure the accused.
