In a shocking incident, a man from Ramadugu in Karimnagar district, Telangana, murdered his mentally challenged elder brother in an attempt to claim insurance worth Rs 4.14 crore.
According to police, Naresh (30) had suffered heavy financial losses after buying two trucks on EMI and further losing money in the stock market. Unable to repay debts amounting to Rs1.5 crore, and under pressure from lenders, he hatched a plan to kill his brother Venkatesh (37), who was mentally challenged. Over the past two months, Naresh secretly took out five insurance policies—four from private companies and one from a government insurer—in Venkatesh’s name.
Facing pressure from lender Rakesh, to whom he owed Rs 7 lakh, Naresh offered him Rs13 lakh to help execute the murder. He also hired his own truck driver, Pradeep, promising him Rs2 lakh.
On November 29, Pradeep informed Naresh that his lorry was parked on the outskirts. Naresh took Venkatesh on a two-wheeler to the spot. There, the trio placed Venkatesh under the truck’s wheels, and Pradeep drove the lorry forward, crushing him to death.
The next morning, Naresh falsely reported the incident to police as a road accident. Venkatesh’s body was sent for autopsy, but discrepancies in Naresh’s account aroused suspicion among insurance investigators, who alerted the police.
When questioned, Naresh confessed to plotting and executing the murder.
Naresh, Rakesh, and Pradeep have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
