The Tamil Nadu Government has relaxed the eligibility conditions for the Thaaymaaman Gold Ring Scheme, extending the benefit to children of eligible Tamil Nadu women who have moved to other States after marriage.
Under the revised guidelines, a child born in a government hospital in Tamil Nadu will be eligible if the mother was born in Tamil Nadu, her parents continue to reside permanently in the State and the required documentary proof is submitted.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai on September
28.
As per the revised guidelines, the benefit will also apply to eligible children born in government hospitals from June 22.
Accordingly, a one-gram gold ring was presented on October 7 to the child of Uma Maheswari, who delivered at the Government Headquarters Hospital in Karaikudi. The ring was handed over by the Block Medical Officer.
