The launch of the Tamil Nadu Government’s Thaimaman Gold Ring Scheme, originally scheduled for September 15, has been postponed to September 25.
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is scheduled to launch the scheme at Usilampatti in Madurai district on September 25. The postponement is due to his proposed visit to London from September 10 to 16 to attract international investments.
Under the scheme, a one-gram gold ring will be given to children born in government hospitals. The scheme was earlier announced for launch on September 15, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai.
Health Minister Arunraj has confirmed the postponement of the launch. Preparations are reportedly under way at the Usilampatti Government Hospital for the September 25 event.
Around 1,500 children born in Usilampatti are expected to receive gold rings at the launch programme.
The scheme covers children born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026, the Chief Minister’s birthday.
