The walkout must not continue

Ever since the BJP came to power in the Centre, it was creating more obstacles behind the scenes by using governors in opposition ruled states. In this regard, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi  has been not approving bills and making baseless false allegations about the Tamil Nadu government in public. Every time during the legislative session, he walked out, citing some trivial reason.
Despite the condemnation of the Governor’s action, it does not seem to be changing. In this context, the Governor walked out of the Assembly  held yesterday without reading his speech. This is not the first time he has behaved like this.
After the DMK came to power in June 2021, he read his entire address for the first time.
In 2023, he did not read the words Periyar, Ambedkar and Kalaignar in his speech. To this, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin retaliated in the assembly, and Governor Ravi stood up and walked out before the assembly ended.  In 2024, the Governor sat down without reading his speech, saying, “Only the Tamil greeting is sung at the beginning. The national anthem should be sung.” Following this, the Speaker read the speech of the Speaker, and the Governor also left. In  2025, he walked out of the session without delivering his speech, demanding that the national anthem be sung at the beginning of the session.
Yesterday during the assembly session, Governor Ravi walked out without reading his speech, citing the same reason. When R.N. Ravi did not utter a single word of the governor’s speech, he even made up a childish accusation that the microphone connection was disconnected. It is the opposition members who will walk out. We can see the Governor walking out with them in Tamil Nadu.
It is customary for the Governor to formally read the government’s policy statement at the beginning of the year. The question arises as to why such rules should be kept when the Governor continues to violate it?
That is why, while speaking in the Assembly, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that, “At the beginning of the year, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, with the support of like-minded political parties across India, will lead efforts in the Indian Parliament to amend the Constitution to eliminate the Governor’s Address.”
Even the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Appavu, has raised the question, “Will you allow this kind of behavior during the President’s address in Parliament?”
Condemnation is growing across Tamil Nadu for Governor Ravi’s series of unruly acts. Opposition leaders are loudly calling for Governor R.N. Ravi to resign for sowing the seeds of conflict politics in Tamil Nadu, where there is an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
The Governor’s walkout and speech boycott in the Legislative Assembly should not continue. This is the will of the people of Tamil Nadu!
