A video showing a thirsty monkey stopping a government bus and drinking water from passengers in Maharashtra has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and concern over the impact of extreme summer heat on wildlife. The incident reportedly occurred near Pusad in Yavatmal district when a State Transport Corporation bus travelling from Washim was blocked by a monkey that sat in the middle of the road.
After the driver stopped the bus and attempted to move the animal away, passengers noticed that the monkey appeared exhausted and dehydrated. A passenger then offered water from a bottle, which the monkey drank eagerly.
Soon, several other monkeys from the nearby forest area gathered around the bus in search of water. Moved by the sight, passengers shared the water bottles they had carried with them.
The video of the incident has been widely circulated online, with many social media users urging the Forest Department to install water troughs and drinking water facilities in forest regions to help wild animals cope with the severe heatwave conditions prevailing in several parts of the country.
