More than 2,000 people participated in a marathon organised in Thoothukudi with the awareness theme “Run for Life, Run Against Drugs”, promoting fitness and creating awareness against drug abuse.
The marathon was flagged off by Ashok Kumar, Executive Vice President of Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank. Earlier, Rybin Thartius, Chairman of Gamesville Sports Academy, delivered the welcome address.
The event was presided over by Rybin Thartius, Perthinal Thartius, Founder of Srishti Enterprises, and Viswa Bharathi, Director of Gamesville Sports Academy. Ganesan, Director of Kalpaka Chemical, and Dr. Naveen of Archana SRRA Hospital offered felicitations.
The marathon was organised by Gamesville Sports Academy, Thoothukudi, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank, V.O.C. Port, Kalpaka Chemical, Srishti Enterprises, S. Tharsius Engineering, Nila Sea Foods, SRRA Hospital, Tamil Nadu Ortho Association, Sriram Engineering and other organisations.
The marathon was conducted in three categories. The 3-km run was open to children aged 8 to 15 years, the 5-km run to participants aged 15 to 60 years, and the 10-km run to participants aged 18 to 60 years.
Participants were provided with T-shirts, medals, certificates, timing chips and food. Prizes worth Rs. 2.60 lakh were distributed during the event, while a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh was awarded to the first-place winner.
Students from Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, Vikasa Higher Secondary School, King of Kings School, Kamarajar College, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College, Kayalpatnam Islamic College and other educational institutions took part in the marathon.
