Morning walkers of Rajaji Park in Thoothukudi welcomed New Year 2026 with a community-oriented celebration held at the park premises on Thursday morning.
The celebrations began with the cutting of a New Year cake, followed by the distribution of sweets, savouries and coffee to walkers and visitors.
As part of the event, free dhotis and sarees were distributed to sanitation workers serving at Rajaji Park, highlighting the group’s spirit of social responsibility.
Members exchanged New Year greetings and spent time interacting with one another in a festive atmosphere.
Samathuva Makkal Kazhagam district secretary M. S. Arputharaj, who was honoured during the programme, participated along with state Arts and Literature Wing secretary Advocate Anthony Pichai.
District assembly president Kandivel, district treasurer Lion Palanivel and district trade wing secretary Sivasu Muthukumar were also present.
Industrialists Rathna Dharmaraj, florist Selvaraj, Natarajan, Subbiah, Arumugam, Balasubramaniam, Murugesan and John attended the function. Advocates Selvakumar, Velmurugan and Master Thangaraj, LIC agents Ganesan, Kandasamy and Jayakumar, retired police assistant inspector Balraj, and others including Ramar, Vignesh, Sekar and Sankar took part.
More than a hundred morning walkers joined the New Year celebrations.
