Thoothukudi TVK woman leader Ajitha Agnel joins DMK

Ajitha Agnel, a woman functionary from Thoothukudi who had earlier staged a protest by blocking actor Vijay’s vehicle, joined the DMK on Sunday in the presence of party Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi.
Ajitha Agnel had been serving as a district-level office-bearer in Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Her supporters had expected her to be appointed as the Thoothukudi Central District Secretary.
However, the post was given to S T R Samuelraj, leading to dissatisfaction.
In protest, she had blocked Vijay’s car outside the party office in Panayur, Chennai, and staged a sit-in along with her supporters. Vijay reportedly left the spot without responding.
Following the incident, Ajitha Agnel, who was under distress, consumed sleeping pills and underwent treatment at a hospital before returning home.
She was later expecting an opportunity to contest from the Thoothukudi constituency, but the party announced actor Srinath as its candidate.
Amid continued disappointment, Ajitha Agnel joined the DMK, stating that women were not given due recognition and respect, which influenced her decision to switch parties.
