Three persons, including a six-year-old girl, were killed after a van collided with a two-wheeler near Karumathur on the Madurai–Theni Main Road on
Sunday.
Police said Rajaguru (27) of Karumathur near Sekkanoorani was riding a two-wheeler to take his niece Pramila (6), who had fallen ill the previous night, to a hospital.
Their neighbour Sangeetha (28) accompanied them to assist.
When they were nearing the Karumathur–Kovilangulam junction, a van negotiating a bend allegedly rammed into the two-wheeler.
The impact threw all three riders onto the road, leaving them critically injured.
Passers-by rushed them to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
However, Rajaguru succumbed to injuries on the way.
Pramila and Sangeetha were declared dead at the hospital.
The Sekkanoorani police have registered a case and launched a search for the van driver, identified as Pandi (43) of Kuravakkudi. Further investigation is under
way.
