A 60-year-old woman, Nagiyammal, from Mawanalla near Ooty was killed on the spot yesterday after a tiger hiding in the bushes attacked her while she was taking her cattle out to graze.
Shocked residents alerted the forest department immediately. Forest officials recovered Nagiyammal’s body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem examination.
Following the fatal attack, the forest department has intensified surveillance in the area. Camera traps and patrol teams have been deployed to track the tiger believed to be responsible.
The incident has created fear and grief among local villagers. Residents have appealed to the forest department to capture the tiger at the earliest to prevent further attacks.
