A 71-year-old devotee from Tirupati has astonished locals and pilgrims after completing more than 3,250 climbs to the Tirumala temple on foot.
Venkata Ramanamoorthy, a retired State Bank of India teller and a resident of Tirupati, has visited the sacred Seven Hills a total of 3,460 times, of which 3,250 were completed by walking the traditional Alipiri
footpath.
After retiring from service, Ramanamoorthy made it a personal vow to visit Lord Venkateswara—fondly known as Ezhumalaiyan—four days a week.
He said that chanting “Govinda… Govinda…” throughout the climb gives him strength and allows him to reach the hilltop within half an hour.
Ramanamoorthy added that the spiritual practice has kept him physically fit even at the age of 71.
His remarkable dedication has left fellow devotees in awe at Tirumala.
