Fishermen from coastal areas near Velankanni apprehended a suspected Sri Lankan intruder following a mid-sea confrontation off the Nagapattinam coast.
According to sources, five fishermen had ventured into the sea when a group arriving in a speedboat allegedly attempted to cut their fishing nets and seize their equipment. The situation escalated into a scuffle, during which the intruders reportedly assaulted the fishermen.
In the ensuing clash, two of the suspects managed to escape, while one was captured by the fishermen. He was brought ashore and handed over to the police for further action.
Authorities have taken the individual into custody and initiated an investigation into the incident.
