TN Police department tops National Disaster Rescue Competition

The Tamil Nadu Police Department has secured the first place at the National Disaster Response Competition 2025, which tested how state teams protect the public during emergencies, including terrorist attacks and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) incidents.
Tamil Nadu’s State Disaster Response Force (TNDRF), represented by a team from the Tamil Nadu Special Police, participated in the national event held in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, from November 10 to 12.
The competition evaluated rapid response, victim rescue, and restoration of affected zones in high-risk disaster scenarios. Last month, in the South India Zonal Disaster Relief Competition held in Odisha, teams from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu took part, with Tamil Nadu emerging as the zonal winner. Following the zonal rounds, the top two teams from each of the four zones across India advanced to the national finals.
In total, 18 state disaster response teams competed at the zonal level, out of which eight teams — Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh — qualified for the national stage.
In the final ranking, Tamil Nadu secured first place, followed by Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in second and third positions respectively.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in Delhi, where Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai presented the championship trophy to the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force, in the presence of NDRF Director General Piyush Anand. The trophy was received on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Police by Additional DGP (Operations) R. Dinakaran.
Tamil Nadu DGP G. Venkataraman congratulated the team for bringing national pride to the State Police Department.
