More than 30 members of the Toda tribal community from the Nilgiris district underwent a comprehensive medical check-up at PSG Super Speciality Hospital in Coimbatore recently.
The Todas, one of the oldest indigenous tribes residing in the Nilgiris, visited the hospital seeking a full body health screening.
The medical team conducted detailed consultations and thorough physical examinations for all members of the group.
Hospital Director J.S. Bhuvaneswaran said that tribal communities from hilly regions often present with specific health concerns. Among the issues observed were slower blood circulation and certain hereditary blood disorders such as thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia.
Cases of blood pressure fluctuations and low blood sugar levels were also noted, largely attributed to lifestyle changes. However, he added that the majority of those examined were found to be generally healthy.
The medical team addressed their queries and provided guidance on preventive healthcare.
Hospital authorities described the visit as a heartening gesture of trust placed by the tribal community in the institution.
The hospital team and the coordinator who facilitated the group’s visit were appreciated for organising the health camp.
