Toll charges hiked across Tamil Nadu

Toll fees at 68 plazas across Tamil Nadu will be increased from midnight on April 1, following the annual revision on national highways.
The revised rates will apply to toll booths at key locations including Sriperumbudur, Paranur, Vanagaram, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nanguneri, Vaniyambadi, Viralimalai, Kappalur, Kaniyur, Athur and Theni.
Officials said the hike will range from Rs. 5 to Rs. 100 depending on the category of vehicles. For cars, the increase is expected to be around Rs. 5, while heavy vehicles may see a hike of up to Rs. 40, reflecting a 3 to 5 per cent rise.
The revised toll will be implemented at major highway stretches such as Chennai-Kanyakumari, Tiruchy-Salem and Salem-Coimbatore corridors, along with the Vandalur-Minjur Outer Ring Road and Madurai Outer Ring Road.
Transport operators have expressed concern over rising operational costs, stating that frequent toll crossings significantly impact expenses for omni buses and goods carriers.
The All Omni Bus Owners Association has urged the Centre to reconsider the hike, warning that it could lead to increased freight charges and a rise in essential commodity prices.
