Toll charges at several toll plazas across Tamil Nadu will be increased from Friday, leading to dissatisfaction among motorists and transport operators.
Officials said the revised rates would come into effect at more than 60 toll plazas located on major National Highways across the State, including key toll booths at Vanagaram and Surapattu near Chennai.
The increase will apply to all categories of vehicles, ranging from light motor vehicles to heavy commercial vehicles. Depending on the category and distance covered, the revised hike is expected to range between ₹25 and ₹100.
The National Highways Authority of India revises toll charges periodically based on inflation and maintenance costs.
However, regular commuters and transport operators have expressed concern over the repeated increase in toll fees, stating that it would further raise travel and transportation expenses.
Motorists have urged authorities to improve road infrastructure and reduce congestion at toll plazas in proportion to the increased charges.
