Transport dept warns action against omni buses excess fares

The Transport Department has cautioned Omni bus operators against charging excess fares during the election holidays and urged passengers to report violations.
In a statement, the Transport and Road Safety Commissionerate said special enforcement teams comprising Regional Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and checking staff have been deployed across Tamil Nadu in view of the Assembly elections on April 23.
With a large number of people expected to travel to their hometowns to cast their votes, authorities have intensified monitoring to prevent operators from exploiting the surge in demand.
Officials warned that strict action, including suspension or cancellation of permits, will be taken against Omni buses found overcharging passengers.
Passengers have been encouraged to lodge complaints through designated helpline numbers, WhatsApp messages or voice recordings.
The department assured that all complaints will be promptly addressed to ensure fair fare practices during the poll period.
