Highlighting that tribal communities form an integral part of Erode’s heritage alongside its natural resources like yellow turmeric and major dams, a special event titled “Tribal Communities – Proud of Erode District” was organized at VET Institute of Arts and Science, Thindal.
The event marked the 25th Silver Jubilee year of READ NGO, held in collaboration with VET Institute. Dr. V.P. Nallasamy of VET Institute delivered the welcome address, while READ Director Mr. Karuppusamy delivered the introductory remarks.
Erode District Collector Mr. S. Kandasamy, I.A.S., delivered the special address. Other prominent guests included Mr. Navaneethan (Arun Ice Cream), Social Worker Mr. N. Arif Ali, Mr. P. Satish (BNI), and District Representative Mrs. Ramwa Spy Princer. People’s Thinking Forum President Mr. T. Stalin Gunasekaran, PSG College Assistant Professor Dr. R. Kavitha, Writer Mrs. Nithya Eraiyanbu, Educationist Mr. W. Bosco Eraiyanbu, and Tamil Nadu Irular Federation President Mr. Irulappu Selvakumar addressed the gathering.
A Tribal Annual Yearbook, a Case Study Book, and a documentary on READ’s social interventions were released. A pre-release preview of the song “Moothakudiyin Perungadu” produced by READ was also featured. Mrs. Kadiyammal from Tadasalatti village performed a traditional welcome song, followed by a ‘Beenatchi’ cultural performance. Tribal Livelihood Foundation Director Mr. Suresh detailed livelihood achievements. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by READ Project Manager Mr. M. Palanisamy.
