The Tamil Nadu Vetri Kalagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has declined the alliance proposal put forward by the AIADMK.
On September 27, a tragic stampede during a TVK campaign rally in Karur claimed 41 lives, leaving the entire nation in
shock.
In response, Vijay announced ₹20 lakh compensation to each of the deceased’s families and ₹2 lakh to the
injured.
The compensation amount has already been transferred to the respective bank accounts.
Later, Vijay personally met the families of the victims in Mamallapuram, Chennai, and offered his condolences and an
apology.
With mourning over, TVK has now resumed its political activities.
Vijay has also formed a new executive committee to oversee the party’s daily operations and future campaigns.
When questioned by reporters about the possibility of an alliance with TVK Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said, “There is no change in our alliance position.
We remain in the same stance as a month ago.” He added, “Vijay’s campaign tour will continue once we receive permission.
His condolence meeting was purely personal, and we do not wish to politicize it.”
Despite earlier invitations from several AIADMK ministers for TVK to join their alliance — and comments from AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding the display of the TVK flag at an AIADMK meeting — Vijay’s TVK has made it clear that it will not align with the
AIADMK.
