Leaders of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have submitted a fresh petition seeking police permission to organise a public meeting addressed by party president Vijay in Puducherry on December 9.
Last week, TVK leaders had approached the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking permission to conduct a roadshow in Puducherry.
However, the police department refused permission citing law and order concerns, including the Karur incident and a case pending before the Madras High Court.
Following this, several rounds of discussions were held with senior police officials. Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy and TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand met officials multiple times over a few days at the Chief Minister’s residence and at the Legislative Assembly office.
On one occasion, TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna also participated in the talks. Despite these efforts, permission for the roadshow was not granted.
In this backdrop, TVK leaders have now submitted a written request to the police authorities seeking permission to conduct a public meeting instead of a roadshow.
In their petition, they have requested that the meeting be allowed at the Uppalam Port Ground on December 9 and sought permission to hold the event anytime between 7 a.m. and
6 p.m.
The police department is yet to announce its decision on the request.
