Two college students were killed in a road accident near Guduvanchery in Chengalpattu district after a car allegedly collided with the moped on which they were travelling.
The deceased were identified as Rajathi, 19, a resident of Thailavaram, and Alisha Nilofar, 19, of Mahalakshmi Nagar in Guduvanchery. The two friends were third-year BBA students at a private college in Potheri.
The accident occurred when the two were travelling on the same moped near the Electricity Board office at Guduvanchery on Wednesday night. A car approaching the area allegedly collided violently with the moped, throwing both students onto the road.
Rajathi sustained severe injuries and died at the spot. Alisha Nilofar was rescued by local residents and admitted to a nearby hospital. She was later shifted to a government hospital in Chennai for further treatment, but succumbed to her injuries.
Tambaram Traffic Investigation Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police arrested Satheeskumar, 24, a resident of Velachery in Chennai, who was allegedly driving the car involved in the accident, and are questioning him.
