Udhayanidhi questions Government over women’s safety, targets Singappen Force

Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday questioned the Tamil Nadu Government’s commitment to women’s safety and criticised the functioning of the recently launched Singappen Special Force.

In a post on social media platform X, Udhayanidhi referred to allegations made by a woman from Srivaikuntam, who claimed that she was sexually assaulted by two functionaries allegedly associated with the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after being promised employment.

The Opposition leader alleged that attempts had been made to suppress the issue and questioned whether adequate action had been taken against those accused in the case. He also referred to claims made by the woman regarding alleged efforts to settle the matter and sought a detailed response from the government.

Criticising the administration, Udhayanidhi asked whether the Singappen Special Force had been created merely for publicity purposes rather than ensuring the safety of women. He questioned the government’s commitment to protecting women and demanded accountability from those allegedly involved in the incident.

The DMK leader called for a thorough investigation into the allegations and urged the authorities to ensure justice for the woman concerned. He also demanded strict action against all those found responsible, irrespective of their political position or influence.

The remarks have triggered fresh political debate, with the Opposition intensifying its criticism of the government over law and order and women’s safety issues in the State.
