Unidentified man found dead in Valankulam

The body of an unidentified man was found floating in Valankulam near Ukkadam on Monday morning, creating tension in the locality and triggering an intensive police probe.
Members of the public spotted the body in the lake and alerted the Ukkadam police. A police team rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of Fire and Rescue Services personnel, retrieved the body. It was later sent to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said the deceased is estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old. Efforts are under way to ascertain his identity and native place. Officers are also verifying recent missing person complaints to check for possible matches.
Investigators are exploring all angles, including suicide, accidental drowning and homicide. CCTV footage from areas surrounding Valankulam is being examined to trace the man’s movements prior to the incident. Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report is received. Further investigation is in progress.
