An unidentified man was found beaten to death with stones at Chinneripalayam near Avinashi in Tiruppur district on Wednesday, police said.
Acting on information that a body was lying near a two-wheeler in the area, police rushed to the spot and discovered the victim, aged around 55, with severe head injuries. His face was reportedly disfigured after being repeatedly struck with stones.
Preliminary investigation suggests that unknown assailants attacked the man and smashed his head with a stone before fleeing the scene.
Forensic experts were summoned to collect evidence, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an intensive probe to establish the identity of the deceased, his native place and the motive behind the murder. Further investigation is under way.
