A shocking case of medical negligence has emerged from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where a pregnant woman was forced to give birth on the hospital floor after being allegedly denied treatment by staff on Tuesday night.
The woman, accompanied by just one relative, had arrived at the hospital with severe labour pains. Reports allege that the hospital administration showed indifference because of her poor background. Despite her worsening condition, medical staff failed to provide assistance or even arrange a delivery space.
In distress and unable to move, the woman gave birth sitting on the ground inside the hospital premises. Eyewitnesses claim that nurses mocked her after delivery, sarcastically asking, “Are you feeling well? Do you want to have more children?”
A disturbing video of the incident, showing the woman writhing in pain on the floor, has gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage across the state.
Following the uproar, Chief Medical Officer R.K. Singh has ordered a departmental inquiry. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office announced strict action: the contract doctor on duty at the time has been dismissed, and notices have been issued to two nurses seeking an explanation for their behaviour.
The incident has raised serious questions about hospital accountability and treatment of underprivileged patients in government health facilities.
