Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan received a rousing welcome on his arrival in Coimbatore today — marking his first visit to the city after assuming office as the Vice President of India last month.
A native of Coimbatore and a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Radhakrishnan was elected to the post on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and took oath in September. He arrived in Coimbatore by a private flight from Seychelles, where he had been on an official visit.
At the Coimbatore International Airport, he was greeted by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, former state president K. Annamalai, and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, who also serves as the National President of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Hundreds of BJP workers and members of the public turned up to welcome him with cheers, garlands, and slogans. Later in the day, Radhakrishnan will attend a public felicitation ceremony organised by Coimbatore residents at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex. At 2.30 p.m., he is scheduled to visit the Coimbatore Corporation Office Complex to pay floral tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue. He will then proceed to Perur Aadheenam (Perur Math) to participate in the centenary celebrations of Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, where he will deliver a special address.
In the evening, the Vice President will travel to Tiruppur to pay homage at the Tiruppur Kumaran and Mahatma Gandhi statues. On Wednesday morning, a felicitation will be held at Velayudhaswamy Kalyana Mandapam, followed by his visit to Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple.
On Thursday, he will attend the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanti celebrations in Ramanathapuram before returning to Delhi later that evening.
