Vijay Speaks to Karur Stampede Victim’s Family, Assures Support

Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay on Sunday reached out via video call to the family of a victim who died in the Karur stampede, assuring them of his support and expressing deep condolences over the tragedy.

The September 27 stampede, which occurred during a welfare event organized by TVK in Karur, claimed 41 lives and left several injured, triggering widespread grief and outrage across Tamil Nadu.

Following the incident, police registered a case against TVK General Secretary N. Anand alias Bussy Anand and Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar. Both have filed petitions before the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail, while Karur District Secretary Mathiyazhagan has been arrested in connection with the case.

Last week, Vijay released an emotional video message expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and announced ₹20 lakh financial assistance for each of the affected families. He also assured that he would personally meet the families to convey his condolences.

At 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, Vijay spoke for nearly 20 minutes with the family of Dhanush Kumar, one of the victims. Speaking to Dhanush’s mother and sister Harshini, he said, “This is an unimaginable tragedy — an irreparable loss. I will always stand by your family and meet you soon.”

He further consoled Harshini, saying, “I will support you as a brother and meet you in person.”

Tamilarasan, a relative of the deceased, confirmed that Vijay had personally called the family to offer his condolences.

Sources close to TVK said Vijay plans to continue speaking with other bereaved families through video calls before meeting them personally in the coming days.
