Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Navalpattu Viji filed his nomination papers for the Thiruverumpur Assembly constituency on Monday, arriving in a vibrant procession featuring a statue of party leader Vijay.
Navalpattu Viji, the party’s nominee for the constituency in Tiruchirappalli district, began his procession from the BHEL premises. Accompanied by supporters, drumbeats and dance performances, he travelled in an open campaign vehicle carrying the statue of Vijay before reaching the Thiruverumpur Taluk Office.
He later submitted his nomination papers to Returning Officer K. Amudha.
In a similar development, AIADMK candidate P. Kumar inaugurated his election office on the Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur National Highway and proceeded in a rally with alliance party workers before filing his nomination.
The nomination process for nine Assembly constituencies in Tiruchirappalli district, including Manapparai, Thiruverumpur, Tiruchirappalli West, Tiruchirappalli East, Mannachanallur, Srirangam, Lalgudi, Musiri and Thuraiyur, commenced on March 30.
Officials said 23 nominations were received on the first day, followed by submissions on April 2 and 4. On April 6, the final day of filing, a total of 158 nomination papers were received across all nine constituencies.
