Vijay to Visit Karur Stampede Victims on October 17

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay is set to visit Velusamypuram in Karur district on October 17 to personally meet the families of the victims of the tragic stampede incident that occurred during his rally on September 27, claiming 41 lives and leaving more than a hundred injured.

The devastating incident, which unfolded during a TVK public outreach programme, shocked the entire nation. In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Inspector General of Police (North Zone) Asra Garg was constituted to probe the causes and lapses that led to the tragedy. The SIT has since been conducting a detailed investigation in Karur.

According to party sources, Vijay will meet the bereaved families and injured victims at a wedding hall near Velusamypuram. During his visit, he is expected to personally hand over financial relief and assistance to those affected by the incident.

The TVK will submit a formal petition to the Karur Superintendent of Police, seeking adequate security arrangements and official permission for Vijay’s visit.

An official announcement is expected once police clearance is obtained.

This will be Vijay’s first direct interaction with the victims’ families since the Karur tragedy, which has deeply impacted Tamil Nadu’s political and public landscape, prompting renewed calls for stronger safety measures at large public gatherings.
