Vinayaka Chaturthi in Kovai dt with 2,230 idols in public places

The police have made arrangements and stepped up security across Coimbatore district in view of Vinayaka Chaturthi on Monday. According to the police, Hindu organisations, political parties, and various other groups have been permitted to install a total of 2,230 large size Vinayaka idols across the district- 730 in the city and 1,500 idols in the rural areas. They started installation of the idols at the permitted locations from Sunday evening. The Coimbatore City Police have deployed 1,500 personnel for security and smooth conduct of the celebrations. Around 1,000 personnel will take care of the security within the jurisdictions of the Coimbatore District Police.
Police protection was provided for the transportation of Vinayaka idols from the place of purchase to the place of installation. The security will continue after the installation of idols and until their ceremonial immersion in select water bodies later in the week. The City and District police conducted separate meetings with various Hindu organisations and political parties last week regarding the installation and immersion of idols.
