Monalisa Bhosle, who went viral during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj last year, has said that her marriage with Burman Khan was based on mutual love and not related to “love jihad”.
Monalisa, who hails from a modest family in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, gained widespread attention in January 2025 while selling beads and bangles at the Maha Kumbh Mela. Her viral photos on social media later opened opportunities for her in the film industry, including a role in a Malayalam film.
On Thursday, Monalisa married her boyfriend Burman Khan at the Arumanur Temple in Kerala. The wedding was conducted according to Hindu rituals and was attended by several guests, including a Kerala minister.
Earlier, Monalisa had approached the Kerala Police seeking protection, alleging that her father was attempting to force her into a different marriage against her wishes.
Speaking to reporters along with her husband after the wedding, Monalisa said she respects all religions and clarified that their marriage should not be viewed through a communal lens.
“This is not love jihad. Our marriage took place according to Hindu rituals,” she said.
Burman Khan also stated that neither of them had converted their religion and that the marriage was their personal choice.
