An elderly fruit vendor in Thiruvottiyur has received an outpouring of public support after being allegedly cheated with a fake Rs. 500 note by a customer.
According to reports, the woman, who was selling mangoes, was handed a dummy currency note resembling Rs. 500, commonly sold as novelty items in shops.
Realising the fraud later, she was seen in a video breaking down in tears while showing the note.
The video quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sympathy.
In the aftermath, several individuals have come forward to assist her. A young man who visited her stall purchased mangoes and, upon learning about the incident, handed over Rs. 3,000 and advised her to remain cautious.
Actor KPY Bala also met the elderly woman and extended financial assistance, offering a bundle of Rs. 500 notes and expressing support.
Further videos circulating online indicate that the woman is also battling cancer, which has intensified public concern. Many people continue to visit and provide monetary help, turning the unfortunate incident into a moment of collective support for the vendor.
