Vizha Veedhi turns cross cut road into a cultural carnival

Cross Cut Road burst into colour, rhythm, and celebration on Sunday evening as Coimbatore Vizha 2025 hosted Vizha Veedhi – A Street Festival of Culture & Rhythm, showcasing 17 traditional art forms. The lively stretch from Lakshmi Complex drew huge crowds between 6 pm and 9 pm, transforming into a vibrant cultural corridor.
The festival was inaugurated by Coimbatore Vizha Chair Shanmugam, Co-Chair Bindhu, Aadarsh, Kesica, Yi Chair Neil, Yi Co-Chair Rahul, and Vizha Veedhi Lead Nishanth, marking the beginning of an evening filled with artistic splendour.
The performances opened with the electrifying Parai Attam, setting a powerful tone for the night. The energy continued with the JAMAB Ensemble, whose dynamic rhythms captivated the audience. The traditional Chenda Melam thundered through the street, drawing spectators closer to the celebrations.
Folk traditions took centre stage with the elegant Baduga Dance and the joyous Valli Kummi, performed in traditional attire that added colour and authenticity. The divine notes of Nadaswaram paired with the rhythmic Thavil elevated the ambience, while the spirited Dhol performance infused Punjabi vibrance into the evening.
The entire street came alive with traditional costumes, cultural installations, vibrant lighting, and enthusiastic community participation. Families, youngsters, and art enthusiasts filled the stretch, celebrating the city’s diverse heritage.
