Why did you join TVK? — Sengottaiyan explains

Former Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan has said that the people of Tamil Nadu will create a great revolution in 2026, explaining the reasons behind his decision to join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Sengottaiyan, who was expelled from the AIADMK, resigned from his Gobichettipalayam Assembly seat on Wednesday. Later that evening, he met TVK president Vijay at his residence in Pattinappakkam, Chennai, and held discussions with him.
On Thursday, Sengottaiyan formally joined TVK at a function held in Panaiyur, Chennai. Several of his supporters, including former Tiruppur MP Sathyabama, also joined the party. TVK leaders, including General Secretary Anand, Nirmal Kumar and Adhav Arjuna, welcomed Sengottaiyan and his supporters into the party.
Speaking to the press after the event, Sengottaiyan recalled his long association with the AIADMK. He said he was identified by MGR during the formation of the party in 1972 and received appreciation from him for his work. He also highlighted his years of political work alongside former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and the praise he received from her.
He said that after Jayalalithaa’s death, the AIADMK split into three factions and all efforts to unite the groups were only discussed but never executed. He added that he attended the Thevar Jayanthi celebration with hopes of bringing the party together, but within two days, he and his close supporters were removed from basic membership. He described this as the “reward” for his 50 years of service to the party.
Sengottaiyan stated that the DMK and AIADMK are no longer different and argued that Tamil Nadu needs a third political force. He said Vijay has set out on a path to create a major movement and that the people of Tamil Nadu are seeking change.
He pointed to the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and Punjab as examples of how new political forces can gain momentum. Expressing strong confidence in Vijay’s leadership, he said that in 2026, Vijay would establish a people-driven and widely accepted government, adding that a great revolution would be created by the people of Tamil Nadu.
Sengottaiyan also clarified that he had not received calls or invitations from any alternative parties, including the DMK or the BJP.
