Wife hacked to death;husband’s shocking selfie confession

A brutal murder inside a women’s hostel in Gandhipuram sent shockwaves across Coimbatore after a man hacked his wife to death and took a selfie with her body before posting it online.
The accused, Balamurugan (34), a construction worker from Tharuvai in Tirunelveli district, had been married to Sripriya (30) of Ganapathy, Coimbatore, for a decade. The couple has two daughters.
Police said marital tensions escalated after Sripriya allegedly developed an affair with a young relative of Balamurugan.
Frequent arguments led her to leave their hometown six months ago and move to Coimbatore. She later placed her children at her parents’ home and stayed at a women’s hostel in Gandhipuram.
Yesterday morning, Balamurugan arrived in Coimbatore with his uncle Raja, hoping to talk to his wife and resolve their issues.
After informing the warden, he waited in the hostel reception. When Sripriya arrived, he pleaded with her to return home and restart their life together. She refused, telling him firmly that she would not go
back.
An argument followed, during which Balamurugan—already angered by a photo he had recently received of Sripriya with the man she was allegedly involved with—lost control. He allegedly pulled out a sickle and hacked her to death inside the reception area.
What followed horrified even seasoned investigators: Balamurugan sat beside his wife’s body, took a selfie, and uploaded it as a status to alert relatives.
He was arrested soon after. In his police confession, Balamurugan said he felt “betrayed and humiliated” and claimed he had come only to reconcile, but “lost control” when she refused to
return.
Police have registered a case of murder and are conducting a detailed investigation into the events that led to the killing and the circulation of the disturbing image.
