More than 50 wild elephants are reportedly moving through the Western Ghats region of Coimbatore district, with some entering foothill villages in search of food and water.
Forest officials have been taking measures to prevent the elephants from entering residential areas. However, elephant movement in the foothill regions continues.
Two nights ago, a wild elephant known as Vettaiyan entered the garden of former panchayat president Malathi Nataraj in Nanjundapuram near Chinnathadagam.
On receiving information, forest officials reached the spot and began efforts to drive the elephant back into the forest.
Forest officials have warned residents to remain cautious in view of the continued movement of wild elephants, particularly those travelling towards the Thadagam area.
