Haryana Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly murdering four children, including her own son, after confessing that she was driven by extreme jealousy over the children being more beautiful than
her.
The accused, identified as Poonam of Panipat district, is accused of killing her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter Ishika by drowning her in a water tank in 2023.
To divert suspicion, she later drowned her own three-year-old son, Suppam, in the same manner.
The family initially believed both deaths to be accidental. In August this year, Poonam allegedly killed another relative’s six-year-old daughter, Zia, also by drowning.
Once again, the incident was believed to be an accident.
The latest incident occurred on December 1 during a wedding function, where Poonam allegedly drowned her nephew’s six-year-old daughter in a plastic water tank.
This time, relatives grew suspicious after noticing that Poonam’s clothes were wet. They immediately alerted the police. During intensive interrogation, Poonam reportedly confessed to all four
murders.
Police investigations revealed that she was driven by extreme jealousy and an uncontrollable desire to eliminate children whom she felt were more beautiful than her own.
A senior police officer said the accused displayed psychotic behaviour and acted with extreme cruelty.
Relatives of the victims have demanded the strictest punishment for the woman, stating that she showed no mercy even towards her own child.
