A woman auto driver from Coimbatore has received national recognition with an invitation to attend the President of India’s tea party at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
Sangeetha, a resident of Goundampalayam in Coimbatore, has been driving an auto for the past six years.
Her husband Balaji is engaged in construction work. The couple has two sons, one studying in college and the other pursuing school education.
The family has been living in a rented house for over 20 years and has been managing its expenses on a monthly income of around Rs. 15,000, while continuing to prioritise the education of their children.
Sangeetha applied for housing assistance under the Housing for All scheme through the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board.
She received a subsidy of Rs. 2.10 lakh and availed a loan from the District Central Cooperative Bank to construct a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Beneficiary Led Construction scheme.
In recognition of her perseverance and commitment, Sangeetha, a beneficiary of the central housing scheme, has been invited to witness the Republic Day programme at Rashtrapati Bhavan and attend the President’s tea party. Expressing happiness over the honour, Sangeetha said the invitation has filled her with pride and confidence. She urged women to work hard despite hardships and thanked the President of India for the recognition.
