Woman beheaded and buried for refusing to quit prostitution

A shocking and brutal murder has come to light in Salem district, where a woman was allegedly beheaded and buried after being killed for refusing to give up prostitution, with her husband and son playing a central role in the crime.
The case surfaced after Selvam of Ayyan Nagar, Kondappanayakkanpatti, Salem, lodged a complaint at the Kannankurichi police station stating that his sister Kanakavalli, aged 36, a resident of Kasthuripatti near Sankagiri, had gone to the house of his son Manikandan on January 13. Selvam said he last met her on the evening of January 15, after which she went missing.
Police registered a missing person case and alerted the Sankagiri police as well. During the course of the investigation, Kanakavalli’s husband Thavasiyappan, aged 54, their son Karthi, and Manikandan were questioned.
Intensive interrogation led to a startling confession that Kanakavalli had been murdered.
According to police, Kanakavalli was first married to Palanisamy and had a son. Following marital discord, she separated from him and later married Thavasiyappan, with whom she had two children, Karthi and Swetha. The couple worked in a power loom unit in the Sankagiri area.
Police said Kanakavalli was allegedly involved in illicit relationships with multiple men, which led to frequent quarrels at home. Despite repeated warnings, she reportedly refused to change her lifestyle. Enraged by this, Thavasiyappan decided to eliminate her.
He allegedly conspired with his son Karthi and Manikandan and offered them money. The trio hired two local men, Vijayan and Suresh, for Rs. 50,000 to execute the murder. On the night of the incident, Kanakavalli was attacked at Manikandan’s house, beheaded with a sickle and her throat slit.
The body was later taken to a nearby vacant land belonging to Vijayan, partially burnt using old clothes, and buried under stones and soil. Police have arrested Thavasiyappan, Karthi and Manikandan, while a search is on for Vijayan and Suresh. The body is set to be exhumed for post-mortem. The incident has caused widespread shock in the region.
