A pregnant woman delivered a baby girl aboard the Alappuzha–Dhanbad Express, with timely assistance from railway staff ensuring the safety of both mother and child.
The incident occurred shortly after the train departed from Annavaram railway station, when the woman, travelling with her family, went into labour inside the coach. Her family immediately alerted ticket inspector Jyothi of the Vijayawada division.
Acting swiftly, Jyothi informed higher officials and coordinated emergency medical support. Before further assistance could arrive, the woman delivered the baby on the train.
In view of the emergency, the train was halted briefly at Ilamanjali railway station. Railway personnel arranged for an ambulance, and both the mother and the newborn were shifted to the Government Hospital at Ilamanjali.
Officials said that both the woman and the baby are in good health, thanks to the prompt response and coordinated efforts of the railway staff.
